Lavender Baby Nursery Ideas

June 1, 2010 by Dawn Papandrea-Khan 1 Comment

It has been some time since I have posted and I do apologize.  Things have been so crazy.  Over the past 6 months we have faced some very difficult times.  Our biggest challenge was having our apartment flood and being forced to move after just having baby #4.  You can read more about it here: Our Apartment Flooded – Had to Pack and Leave.  But God is so faithful.  He blessed us with a wonderful NEW home.  Check out the pictures here: Our New Home.  So, we are finally all settled in and I am getting back into the swing of things as far as work and blogging.

I was looking for inspiration for a new post and found this gorgeous lavender inspired baby nursery mural on www.sensible-chic.com.  Oh my goodness, don’t you just love it?  The soft pastel mural colors are perfect with the chocolate brown furniture.  And I love how they brought in purple accents in the chair and window treatments.  The mural has a Peter Rabbit feel to it – so beautiful and perfect for a baby girl’s room.

I am not 100% sure how these walls were done.  I suppose you can accomplish this look with a stencil design and silver metallic paint.  You can create just about any custom design and have it made via a stencil company.  You can tie in elements of your baby nursery bedding onto the walls with a painted design.  The metallic silver paint really pops against the purple base paint.  I found this one on www.unique-baby-gear-ideas.com.

Wow!!!  This room is amazing as well.  It is not quite lavender, but when I saw it, I just had to include it.   Found it on www.littlecrowninteriors.com.  Has a wonderful mix of modern and traditional.

I found this lavender baby nursery on www.decorate-the-nursery.blogspot.com.  The ceiling looks like it was done with an allover stencil pattern.  And because there seems to be more ceiling space than wall space, what a great way to bring balance and softness to the space.

This last picture is by www.MyWonderfulWalls.com.  They offer a lot og great do it yourself stencil options.  I just love the pops of bright pink and white against this rich lavender.  Such a happy baby nursery!

What do you think of lavender in the nursery?  What would your first girly color choice be?  Have you considered using lavender instead of the traditional pink?  We would love to hear from you!  Leave your comments below.

And be sure to check out these great lavender baby nursery items, such as bedding, window treatments, blankets, and more!

Cinderella’s Carriage Nursery Mural

August 3, 2009 by Dawn Papandrea-Khan 4 Comments

I decided to take a quick look around one of my favorite sites that is jam packed with nursery mural inspiration – Design Dazzle.com.  I came across a gorgeous mural done by Heidi Ingersoll, owner and artist of Posh Paint Designs.  I LOVE how she uses soft colors in the mural and frames it with a scroll border.  It looks like a window within the striped wall looking out at the carraige and landscape.  The mural itself is simple, but the clean lines and shading are just perfect.

I went searching for more mural ideas with the Cinderella theme and came found this outrageous little girl’s room that was obviously done for some kind of celebrity.  After reading the article, I read that it was done in a football player’s home.  Read more about it here.

This last mural was done by www.cjpmurals.com.   The blue paint color against the white is beautiful.  And the Cinderella mural is so creative with the simple  carriage design.  My favorite part of it is the use of glitter.  That just transforms it into something truly magical.

So, if you are planning on decorating your little girl’s bedroom or nursery, feel free to use these beautiful pictures as your inspiration.  This is the reason I started this blog as a place where new parents can come and get inspired!

Do you have a favorite Nursery Design?  Please share!!

Rainbow Themed Nursery Murals

July 25, 2009 by Dawn Papandrea-Khan 2 Comments

I have always loved the colors of a rainbow.  As a kid, my mom and dad made a big deal whenever a rainbow appeared.  We would all run outside and Oooh and Aaaah.  It is funny, because now I do the same thing with my own children.

So, why not do a rainbow mural design in the nursery?  Here are some fun mural ideas that I found online.   And as always, I give credit to the artists who did the murals by including a link to their site.

This picture is of a beautiful blended rainbow against a blue sky and soft white clouds.  This is simple but the colors are just stunning.

The colors in this one are much bolder.  The colors pop against the baby blue.  This would be great for a little girl’s playroom.  Aren’t the fairies adorable?

This is a more whimsical.  The rainbow has cleaner lines.  The artist added fun letters and numbers, stars and butterflies.  They look as if they are dancing down the rainbow.

If you are not as artistically inclined but you still want to have something hand done in the nursery – a DIY stencil kit might be the way to go.  This rainbow stencil kit comes with everything you need to get started.

Garden Themed Nursery Murals

Are you having a baby girl? Or maybe you already have a little girl and want to spruce up her nursery or bedroom? A Garden themed mural is a great choice for the walls of a little girl’s room. It is one theme that can grow with your child as opposed to a babyish theme.

There are so many options for what to include in a garden themed mural – Trees, Flowers, Landscape, Animals, Butterflies….. The possibilities are endless! I mean, with flowers alone think about how many colors and shapes you can include. The whole point of a garden is that it can be customized and created just like you would a real garden. That is why this theme is so much fun!

If you have an older child, you can even include them in the design process. They can pick the flowers that they like, the colors, and the animals.

Here are a few murals that I came across in my research. As an artist, this is actually the best way to come up with a plan is to gather a bunch of reference pictures. Just do a Google search.

A tree is a great way to bring the outdoors in. I love this particular tree with the painted spring blossoms!

You can even do something simple. Blue for the sky, light green for the grass and a stenciled fence. Then add the small details like they did here.

This mural was actually done with stencils. Click on the picture to check out the site that offers these adorable stencil designs.

This is one of my own mural projects that I did for a little girl’s nursery. I just did a few colorful flowers to accent the wall space beneath a window. It is subtle but really beautiful. And as you can see, this type of mural does not have to be just for a little girl’s room. You can have this just about anywhere (except for a little boys room, of course LOL. Though my 4 yr old son would probably love this in his room LOL)

Isn’t this one great? A window! The perfect solution for a room that has a limited amount of light or windows. Love it!
